Food can be beautiful too

Who doesn’t like ‘pretty’ looking food? While some people don’t care, most of us do, because beautiful food is very enticing and inviting to try out (to cook or eat).
And when it’s a holiday like 4th of July, or a special themed event, I like to do just that. Not that I go out of my way to learn new techniques to make a perfect presentation, I’m not a chef after all and I like simple, but playing with colors is fun! Colors as in colorful food, not artificial food coloring. Nowadays I stay away from those numbered colors as much as I can and use natural colors where possible, even if it means less vibrantly colored cookies or desserts.

So where do these colors come from? Of course, the best fresh ones come from fruits and veggies. Ever since we discovered that the Wholefoods bakery uses only natural and organic products to color their cakes and cookies, we’ve been hooked! I’ve been making dessert fruit pizzas for years and each time I serve it, there is no crumb left!

Red, White & Blue

This year I’ll use the colors of the American flag on my dessert pizza to celebrate Independence Day. There are so many fruits we can use for our red, white and blue desserts, and so many recipes available I wanted to share the recipe links of some favorites here.
