Thought I’d share some tips on how to boil this favorite summertime veggie at barbecues, besides the obvious “throw the corn in a pot with water.” 😀

How to boil corn on the cob

Ingredients

  • Ears of corn
  • Water to cover the corn
  • Salt

Instructions

  • Remove the husks and silk.
  • Boil water, add corn.
  • Cover the pan and let the water return to a boil.
  • Add salt.
  • Boil for 3-5 minutes until tender, 3-5 minutes. Remember, the cooking time will depend on the variety and maturity of your corn.
  • You can keep the corn warm in the water or remove from the pot.

Other Corn-Boiling Method

The method above is most common, but if you like more tender corn, you may prefer the following better.

Place the corn into the boiling water, cover the pot and turn off the heat. Let the corn sit in the water for 10 minutes to get a crisp-tender finish.

Recipes to add flavored butter to your corn.

They say not to boil your corn in salted water because it can make the kernels very tough. I do not agree, because that’s exactly what I do and I never had tough corn on the cob. This may depend on the ‘age’ of the cob, so make sure you always use young ears of corn.

Enjoy your summer sides at the next barbecue!
