Tips to clean your Instant Pot and Slow Cooker

After using your electric cookers for a while, are you noticing a dull film inside the pot? Today I am sharing some great tips to clean and make your instant pot and slow cooker shine like new again (cause yes, I like to keep my pots and pans ‘pretty’ as long as I can 🙂

I have tried washing and soft scrubbing, but never got that shine back and regretfully resigned to the dullness until I found these tips! I believe in the power of baking soda and vinegar, simple household items that are environmental friendly too.

Instant Pot cleaning tips

You already have the basics of cleaning your Instant Pot, but here’s a quick reminder.

  • Never immerse the cooker base and heating element in water, or say bye bye to your unit.
  • Remove the seal from the lid and wash both in warm soapy water. Although both can go in the dishwasher, I found that the lid looked duller than before, so now I hand-wash it.
  • Inner pot and rack can also be washed in the dishwasher, but in my experience that doesn’t remove the dull look.
  • Instead, pour 1 cup of vinegar in the pot and let it sit for 5 minute. Rinse with water and discoloration should be gone!
  • Remove and rinse the anti-block shield inside the lid to get rid of food remains. Push the shield towards the edge to pop up (takes some effort, so be patient).
  • Periodically clean the condensation collector (back of the pot).

Here’s a video to show you more:

In some of the comments of this video, I saw that some people use “Bar Keepers Friend,” a cleaner, to get the shine back. That’s worth a try too!

Slow Cooker cleaning tips

Did you know that your slow cooker has a self-cleaning feature? Here’s how

  • First fill your cooker with water to the fill line.
  • Add about 1/2 cup white vinegar to a 3 qt pot (adjust for other sizes).
  • Slowly add 1/2 cup of baking soda so it won’t bubble over. (some chemistry in your kitchen 🙂
  • Set on the lowest setting for an hour with cover on.
  • This will allow any caked on food to dissolve and easyly wipe off.
  • Once cooled off, wash with warm soapy water and rinse off.

This tip is for deep cleaning your slow cooker and not required each time your use your cooker.
